Banana Republic Clothing

Banana Republic clothing technically originated in the late 1970s but it wasn't until they were acquired by Gap in the early 80s that they really took off and dominated the fashion scene.  Banana Republic offered a very different feel of clothing at that time.  While people were still wearing tight Sergio Valente jeans and left-over bell-bottoms from the 70s, this company made a bold move by offering a style that hadn't been seen very much in the US.  This style was travel and safari themed.

If you are old enough, you may remember a Banana Republic clothing catalog.  In this catalog, each item was accompanied by some kind of cool story about some kind of expedition, safari, hunt, or similar themed little piece of fiction.  This made the catalog extremely unique as it was actually fun to browse through.  Eventually, this catalog was dumped in favor of more traditional clothing that it still carries in all of its stores today.  Since this is a company owned by Gap, you can expect to find a lot of similar types of clothing.  There is a huge selection available for men and women of all sizes.
